Project Connect is a comprehensive program providing exciting new resources to improve achievement. Project Connect was developed specifically to address the individual needs of students and support instruction in school. Teachers will welcome resources to re-teach and expand learning opportunities, and parents are empowered to become involved in the education of their child.
SkillsTutor Increases Student Achievement
The central component of Project Connect is SkillsTutor, an Internet-based system of reading and math tutorials aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards. SkillsTutor Is A Perfect Fit With The New Standards-based Math and Reading Curriculum
SkillsTutor works because it diagnoses and identifies gaps in student knowledge, prescribes instruction, then tests for subject mastery. Reading, writing, language, and vocabulary lessons use 3 categories of interaction: before- reading interactions build student readiness for reading; during-reading interactions help students ask themselves questions as they read; and after-reading interactions check students’ comprehension of material. Mathematics and algebra lessons use real-life applications to build solid skills starting from each learner’s skill level.
SkillsTutor Trainings Support Administrators, Teachers and Families
Project Connect provides SkillsTutor training for school personnel and parents to support their children in the educational process. Training sessions for administrators and teachers demonstrate how SkillsTutor provides differentiated learning opportunities for each student. Parent training sessions provide families with assistance in using SkillsTutor to address their child’s individual needs. This combination of SkillsTutor and trainings offer a powerful resource to support parents – a perfect response to NCLB parent initiative requirements!
Empowerment For Educators
SkillsTutor’s management system provides accountability by tracking individual and group scores, time-on-task, product usage and lesson assignments. Progress reports save teachers time, eliminate manual paperwork, document results and monitor student progress for teachers, administrators and parents. These reports are a direct response to the requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act!
Project Connect Can Be Implemented In Stages
The first step of Project Connect is to subscribe to SkillsTutor. Purchased as an annual license, the program provides individual passwords that allow students, parents and teachers to work at school, home or any site with Internet access. The second step is to schedule and complete the trainings for school staff and parents. These sessions will be coordinated to maximize product usage and effectiveness.
