Expository This workshop addresses the ISAT Expository Writing Exam. Participants will examine expository student samples using the state rubric, discussing the differences in scoring. Teachers will learn various writing strategies that help students write effective expository essays. Emphasis will be on prewriting strategies, leads and conclusions with voice, and support and elaboration.   Persuasive This workshop addresses the ISAT Persuasive Writing Exam. Participants will examine persuasive student samples using the state rubric, discussing the differences in scoring. Teachers will learn various writing strategies that help students write persuasive essays: leads and conclusions with voice and support and elaboration. Emphasis will be on authentic persuasive writing prompts that get students excited about writing persuasive essays.   Narrative This workshop addresses the ISAT Narrative Writing Exam. Participants will examine narrative student samples using the state rubric, discussing the differences in scoring. In addition, participants will learn strategies to teach students how to write to a narrative prompt using an effective opening paragraph, develop body paragraphs through snapshot*, thoughtshot*, and dialogue, and conclude their essay effectively.
